I have finally decided to reflect on a significant milestone from last year, and I am excited to share that as my first blog post of the year, 2025.

As the clock struck midnight on October 1, 2024, I found myself standing at the threshold of something truly exciting; the launch of the TheCySafe Initiative. After months of brainstorming, planning, and sleepless nights fueled by cups of coffee (and a bit of anxiety), I was thrilled to finally share my passion for cybersecurity awareness with the world, alongside my co-founder, Rasheedat Abdulazeez who is a SOC Analyst.

The idea for TheCySafe Initiative sprouted from our own experiences navigating the intricate web of online safety. I recalled moments when I had clicked on suspicious links or received dubious emails, thinking, “It won’t happen to me.” But as I dove deeper into the world of cybersecurity, I realized that many individuals and organizations are blissfully unaware of the threats lurking in cyberspace. This realization ignited a fire within me to educate and empower people to protect themselves online.

October: A Month of Impact

Our campaign kicked off with a bang! Leading up to October, Rasheedat and I spent countless hours brainstorming and sketching ideas on our planning boards. The excitement was tangible as we envisioned a future where individuals would be more aware of online safety—a future we were determined to create. Rasheedat took the lead in one of the most crucial aspects of our initiative: funding. With her unwavering determination, she reached out to potential sponsors and generous individuals who shared our vision. Among these incredible supporters was Dr. Iretioluwa Akerele, whose generous contribution helped us bring our campaign to life.

It was heartwarming to witness the community rallying around our cause, and we were deeply grateful for the support we received from others who believed in our mission. But it wasn’t just about financial backing; we were blessed with a dedicated team of volunteers who were just as passionate about cybersecurity awareness as we were. Their willingness to lend their time and expertise added a unique dimension to our campaign, and it was inspiring to see how many people were eager to contribute.

On the 19th of October 2024, we officially launched our awareness campaign, and the energy in the air was electric. We set out to engage individuals in a way that felt relatable and approachable. We understood that cybersecurity could be a daunting topic for many, so our goal was to break down complex ideas into digestible concepts that everyone could understand. One of the highlights of our campaign was the diversity of our volunteers. Many of them communicated in their native languages, which created a welcoming environment for participants. This approach not only facilitated better understanding but also fostered connections among individuals from different backgrounds. It was truly remarkable to see how language could bridge gaps and enhance communication around such an important topic.

As the campaign progressed, we were met with an overwhelming response from the community. People were eager to learn, sharing their experiences and insights about online safety. The sense of camaraderie we witnessed was nothing short of inspiring. Our campaign was not just an event; it was a movement fueled by collaboration, community, and a shared commitment to online safety. As we look back on October, I am filled with gratitude for everyone who played a part in making TheCySafe Initiative a success. Together, we are fostering a culture of awareness and empowerment, and I am excited about the journey ahead.

The success of our cybersecurity awareness campaign in October has only fueled my passion further. As we move forward, I am committed to expanding TheCySafe Initiative, developing more resources, and engaging with our community to create a safer online environment for everyone. To all who joined us in October and contributed to making TheCySafe Initiative a success, thank you! Your enthusiasm and willingness to learn and share have inspired my co-founder and I, and we can’t wait to see what we can achieve together in 2025. Here’s to a year filled with growth, learning, and cybersecurity consciousness!
