There’s nothing so important in an office environment as being productive and of value while keeping your sanity intact. You must be sane and clear-headed to give value, right?
Over time, I have realized that productivity goes in tandem with your state of mind, which grossly affects the level of value you would give to the office or society. If you work in a corporate environment like mine, you need to be highly coordinated not to flop, and of course, for your sanity. When I started out 9 – 5, adjusting was difficult, and I was overwhelmed. I found out that I wasn’t having enough time for myself, and my workload at the office gradually increased by the day. It was unbelievable! I was the busiest but not the most productive, which led to my decision to re-strategize by ensuring that I have, at all times, an active state of mind.
In this post, I’ll be sharing some of the things I did to boost my productivity at work, which led to a successful outcome.
LET’S DIG IN
1. A Planner
The best thing to happen to anyone who intends to have a great day is to plan for that day. According to Dwight D. Eisenhower:
“Plans are nothing; planning is everything.”
I designed a personal planner to regulate my outstanding task for the day. I write out these tasks in an order according to their level of importance and urgency before I begin to work on them. This has helped me coordinate and reduce the pressure over time. This also helps me avoid multitasking as it is difficult to juggle everything at a time.
2. A Task Timer
Task timers are great tools to achieve your task generally. Starting in a bustling corporate environment wherein a task is assigned to me with a deadline of 24 hours, all I need is a task timer. So I reset the task deadline and give myself 15 hours in total to finish the task. You can use your phone, smart watch, or stopwatch for your task timer.
3. Take Breaks
I advocate for breaks and will say that with my full chest. The idea of working long hours without breaks is never advisable. Take some time off your desk, stroll down to Mama Nkechi’s shop, and cool off before returning to your task. This helps to boost your state of mind and your level of productivity.
4. A Lunch Box
I know you were patiently waiting for this part. It is the most important for me because you need to boost that energy with food to enable quality input to the delivery of your work at the office. You can get your own lunch box like I did, which I use to stock food for myself daily. On the other hand, if you find it challenging to prepare your meals to take to work, it’s advisable that you find good restaurants around or a reliable food vendor.
